I bought this car from the original owner in Orlando FL in 1983, had it repainted in '85 and sold it in '88 to a fellow from Stratford, CT. 12 years later in June 2000 I got it back from a fellow in Henderson, NV! Since its been back I have refinished the engine compartment and replaced front floor pans and interior with carpets from Auto Custom Carpets and upholstery from Legendary. Under the hood the non-original 383 (swapped by one of the previous owners) sports a balanced bottom end and TRW 11:1 massaged dome pistons (again, by one of the previous owners), ported 452 heads with 2.14"/1.81" stainless valves, CAT 1.6 alum. roller rockers and chrome shafts, Proform tubular pushrods, Comp XE275HL-10 cam (231/237 @ 0.50 w/.525" lift - now .560" lift with 1.6 ratio rockers), hyd. lifters and springs, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Holley 750 vac. sec. carb modded for 4 corner idle, Jegs drop base chrome air cleaner assembly and K&N style reusable filter, TTI 1-7/8" chrome headers and full 3" exhaust system featuring Magnaflow stainless steel mufflers and Mancini racing stainless steel "road runner" exhaust tips, Ram clutch, Centerforce billet steel flywheel, Lakewood safety bellhousing and driveshaft loop. Original equipment includes F8 Ivy Green Metallic paint w/twin black hood stripes (non-original but added by a previous owner when the car was painted), T7 Bronze interior with Saddle/Tan upholstery, dash pad and door panels. Added subtle features are a factory style in-dash tach (from The Paddock) and Hurst Competition Plus shifter w/original style woodgrain shifter ball. The factory rear window defroster has been removed so that a pair of Jensen stereo speakers could be installed along with the in-dash Jensen stereo unit. Factory installed mechanicals include the Performance Axle Package featuring 3.55 Sure Grip 8-3/4" rear end, Hemi suspension (leaf springs and torsion bars), maximum cooling radiator (26" wide, now 4 cores deep), power steering, power Bendix fixed caliper disc brakes up front (4 piston calipers), 10"x2.5" rear drums and air conditioning (now converted to Classic Auto Air R134 system). The tire/wheel combo is either: Front: 15"x7" Magnum 500 wheels mounting B.F. Goodrich 235-70R/15 Radial T/A tires. Rear: 15"x8" Magnum 500 wheels mounting B.F. Goodrich 275-60R/15 Radial T/A tires. -or- Chrysler 5.5"x14" painted steel wheels all around mounting Mastercraft 225-70R/14 tires with stock Plymouth Division hubcaps.
Highlights of ownership are a 3rd place finish at the 2003 Mopars With Big Daddy car show ('68-'70 B-Body Modified class) in Ocala, FL and driving it from Orlando to Columbus, OH for the 2005 Mopar Nationals for the Road Runner Tribute. Jack Smith told the story of how the road runner came to be. Memories like that you just can't buy. I drive it wherever it goes. If you see it on a trailer its either broken or being stolen! Even with over 200,000 miles on the odometer it still looks good and runs great. You may see us at the Old Town cruise in Kissimmee, FL on Sat. night from time to time. When I take the car down there I'm usually the only road runner in the place. We definitely need to see more Mopars at Old Town!
