Love your little red,
I just had worked on one for a friend. The plastic carb leaked so we sanded it down until it didn't leak anymore. Very cool trucks. My Mother back in the early 80's had looked at baying one but ended up getting a 76 blue ford cobra instead.

BELEIVE IT OR NOT IN 78 THE LIL RED EXPRESS WOULD OUT RUN A CORVETTE TO 75 MPH. NOT BAD FOR A PICKUP. I LIKE THE LIL RED EXPRESS JUST ABOUT BUILT ONE BUT MADE MY 1980 DODGE RAM INTO A SLEEK VIPER BLUE W/SILVER RACING STRIPES. A IMPORT AND MUSTANGS WORST NIGHTMARE. I WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT ONE DAY A RICE BURNER PULLED UP BESIDE MY TRUCK HE REVED HIS ENGINE AT THAT MOMENT I KNEW IT WAS ON. HIS GIRLFRIEND HAD A SMILE ON HER FACE CUZ SHE THOUGHT HIS CAR WAS BAD ASS. DID WHAT I DO BEST PEDAL TO THE METAL AND WOOPED HIS ASS. MOPAR OR NO CAR. HIS GIRLFRIEND DIDNT LOOK SO PLEASED WHEN I SEEN THEM IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR.

I've got a 1979 Lil Red with terribly sloppy steering. I'm going to replace the steering box but want to brace the frame while I'm in there. I haven't found any frame braces on the net. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

It's a nice truck, I have one also that I restored a couple of years ago. Check the frame for a crack right where the steering box bolts to the frame. They are noted for cracking. You can buy a brace to help fix the problem after you get it welded. The braces were used on the later trucks. Also search the junk yards for one. Have fun restoring it, and be careful, there is a lot of mis information out there. Join the Lil red express club (Hampton Roads) Skip is the guys name, They are very helpful.

That is a very cool truck. In 1978 the Lil Red Trucks were the fastest domestic made autos. I like the 79s too. I once saw a Lil Red Truck hurt a 78 Corvettes feelings. It will look great after you finish. Good and streight now. Gotta love those tuff steering wheels very cool. Good Lookin truck.
